Player's Choice
There are a number of decisions that players make when playing blackjack. The following are options given to players:
1. Surrender
This option is the least common of all decisions that players make. Not all Blackjack games offer this option to players. However, those that do offer surrender to players have two categories to choose from. The Early Surrender and the Late Surrender are the two categories of surrender option.
Surrender means that players have a choice to either fold their hand or not, this will cost half of the original bet made by players. If you are to surrender do this before any other decisions that you may take in the future.
An early surrender must be done first thing; however, if you already split, draw another card, or double down you can never surrender.
The only thing that differentiates the early and late surrender is how the dealer handles blackjack.
Early Surrender means that player surrenders his or her card before the dealer check cards for blackjack. This option gives players a very good advantage especially if the dealer has blackjack. That is why this option is rarely given to players by the casino.
Late Surrender means that player can surrender their cards after the dealer check cards for blackjack and only if the dealer does not have blackjack. That is the only time that the dealer will allow players to surrender.
Surrender is a nice option but use it wisely.
2. Hitting/ Standing
This is the most common option that players take while in the game. This is the option of whether the player will draw another card or they will "stand", meaning to stop at his hand total.
However, the decision usually depends on the card the dealer is showing. This may be tough for some but just pay attention to other players and to the dealer and you'll know what to do.
3. Doubling Down
This is one option that can be profitable to players. Doubling down means players are doubling their bet after they have received their first two cards. However, players are only allowed to double down if they will double the original amount of their bet.
4. Splitting Pairs
This option is allowed only to players with two cards of the same rank. Provided the cards were the first two cards that were dealt by the dealer.
5. Insurance and Even Money
Insurance is the least option that players should make. However, this rule is commonly available in the rules of Blackjack. Taking Insurance is not necessary or mandatory. Taking insurance is a poor bet.
Even money means that players are getting what he or she had bet for. The payout is at 1:1.
